All have a reason or two (or three!) for needing rehab before becoming adoptable. Like most dogs that need rescue, things have to be sorted out first. Health, behaviour, assessment to match with the right home. There's no great urgency, each dog lets you know when they are ready to leave the nest and begin their new lives.

Sprite is in foster care on the Mid North Coast of NSW.
She's got a fair bit of rehab to go to. She is so underweight it's like picking up a little bird. She has severe dental disease and her ears need to be flushed and cleaned under anaesthetic now that the hair is plucked. It was so thick, it was clogging the ear canal and created a perfect breeding ground for bacteria. She needs to be desexed, thankfully I can see no sign of mammary tumours but our vet is going to check thoroughly once she's knocked out. She needs a heartworm test too. Fingers crossed she comes back as a negative. For seniors, we also run a full lab blood test which will pick up any anomalies. Her personality is lovely! She's just the sweetest soul and loves company. She gets along with other dogs too. UPDATE 2nd July - Major dental completed. Sprite's teeth were rotten and a canine was hiding a pus pocket. Her vets recommended desexing be done second due to infection risk. Heartworm negative. Full blood panel results TBA. _____ UPDATE 14 July - Sprite's gums have healed beautifully. However her blood results tell us that she has been starving long before arriving in care and although she eats well, there's still pathology markers that give out vets cause for concern. Under vet advice she will be waiting at least a month until another general anaesthetic (re desexing). In the meantime it's lots of nutritious food and lots of cuddles. NEW ARRIVAL
Little man just arrived and needs to have a huge dental day. He has what is colloquially called 'Parrot Mouth'. Where the lower jaw is significantly shorter and their teefies grow upward into their palate. He also has extra teeth because his baby ones didn't fall out. So he definitely needs extractions to make him comfortable. We'll get a couple of photos of his jaw for you once he's decompressed and doesn't mind an annoying human playing with his mouth. ------ UPDATE; his vet has advised to wait a month, to give his adult teeth time to fully come through. Then he'll be having a total head xray as well as dental xrays. ____ UPDATE; Slight delay due to our clinic moving locations but Rascal is booked for his x-rays on the 22nd July. A tentative surgical booking is scheduled for the 31st July. UPDATE Rascal had all his dental work but his vet wants a 2 month wait to re-check his jaw and position of his teeth now that all the excess teeth have been removed. Poppy | One Of Munchkin's Babies | Temporarily Withdrawn

After many blood tests and exams, we're going to try something a bit 'out there'.
Poppy is going to have a DNA health panel soon (the test checks for over 300 genetic markers). We're searching for any condition that explains her drastic rejection of stitches. Her 3 desex stitches took 8+ weeks to clear up. Poppy had a grass seed lodge in the skin of her tummy, the reaction was incredible and our vets were thinking tumour/cancer going by the wound. Fortunately to everyone's surprise - a simple grass seed was found. It's clear her body reacts to any foreign objects. She has a patella issue but there's a chance she could reject the tiny implants and stitches needed to correct the luxation. If her body rejects them, she could lose her leg. Her potential adopter would need to be sure of their decision to take on a patella dog who cannot be operated on. A bit of an ask but we're sure somebody is out there. In the meantime we'll try our best to find an answer. |

Merry is a delight.
Gets along with other dogs but can be bossy, loves her food and a daily sniffing adventure. A lovely house guest, she'll take herself into the garden for toilet breaks and curl up with you for cuddles. If you've got plenty of time to spend with her, she'd bond with you as a solo dog. Otherwise, having a little friend would be in her best interest. She's halfway through her mammary tumour surgery. Merry also has a Grade 3 - 4 heart murmur which is treated with Cardisure twice daily. Merry will be available for adoption once her 3rd surgery is completed. *** UPDATE Merry is now available for adoption. Her rehab time was longer than expected. Having fine skin with very little 'give', her surgeries had to be timed perfectly. We couldn't risk tearing or wound breakdown. I've included a photo of one operation where you can clearly see that any stretch she had was completely lost along with the mammary tumours. It was an exercise in patience. Applying a good rub of coconut oil each night. And a sprinkle of collagen on her meals. I don't know if it helped with recovery and skin elasticity but it couldn't hurt. Now we're out the other side, all she needs is a new human. Due to her heart murmur, she will leave with a month's worth of Cardisure to continue with. Please see Pets For Adoption |

ARRIVED 29th August.
What a mess! Little man Henry had to be shaved to the skin. What was left of his hair was felted - well beyond salvage. So far, he's the cutest boy. Henry is working hard to get some weight back onto his skeletal frame. Slow but steady. UPDATE booked for his vetwork in early October. Henry is still very skinny but no longer skeletal. Depending on how long his dental takes or the risk of cross-infection, it's yet to be seen whether he will have his dental first and desex in a second surgery. |
